Qais Al Suwaidi is Director of the Climate Change Department at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). In this role, he manages the National Climate Change Adaptation Program, a nationwide multisectoral risk assessment and adaptation planning effort aimed at improving the resilience of economic, social, and natural systems in the UAE. Qais also leads the implementation of the UAE’s Nationally Determined Contribution, with the aim of reducing the UAE’s GHG emissions in line with the country’s economic diversification efforts. Qais also leads the UAE’s Climate Change Research Network, which brings together a group of committed climate scientists and researchers to facilitate dissemination of knowledge and advance development of research collaborations. Internationally, Qais is a lead UAE negotiator in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. He also represented the UAE in the 2020 G20 climate meetings and is a member of a number of national and international committees.
Al Suwaidi holds a Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree from the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), a Master in International Law, International Relations and Diplomacy degree with a specialization in Sustainable Development from Sorbonne University, and a BSc in sciences from the University of Melbourne.

Engineer Tahani Yousuf received Urban planning Master Degree from American University of Sharjah 2007, and is currently working as a Director of urban Planning Department in Ministry of Energy and infrastructure 2021. Her professional interests focus on communicative approaches to planning and research and her current projects include the first phase of the National spatial development plan for UAE, which was an outcome of the governmental annual meetings 2018. Dr. Ammar Jarrar is a Smart Cities and Water Resources Expert. His recent work focuses on managing programs with the aim of addressing challenges facing smart cities, sustainable water resources management, and treated wastewater reuse. He has published several articles and reports in WRR Journal, IAHS, ASCE, and IAHR. He is the author and contributor to several reports and studies in the field of sustainability and water resources management and planning.
As a performance-driven professional with more than 25 years of experience in the smart cities and water industry in Australia and worldwide, Dr. Jarrar has worked across all facets of natural resources management and smart city initiatives, from operations and project management through to executive board meetings. He has solid experience working with water resources management, smart city management, greening and landscaping program management, water resources assessment and modelling, water quality, recycled water use, the nuances of cross-jurisdictional engagement, project management, value engineering, water & irrigation infrastructure projects, drainage projects, climate change impact and adaptation, socio-economic impacts and structural adjustments, strategic planning, environmental impact assessment, and rigorous evaluation of water sector reform implementation.
Dr. Jarrar has a proven track record in developing and maintaining strategic policy advice on smart cities and water reform programs. His achievements range from developing a smart city strategic plan and implementation framework, to designing and implementing successful irrigation, parks, landscape, and water management initiatives, as well as delivering efficient and effective programs on sustainable water and smart city strategies. Dr. Alzaabi received his bachelor from University of Sharjah in dental surgery, graduated the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland with a master’s degree in healthcare management and studied a master’s in public health in the University of Essex. He is the Vice Chairman of the Department of Health Abu Dhabi Youth Council and a Certified Foresight Practitioner (CFP). He also leads the AI and innovation lab in the Department of health with the aim to transform healthcare delivery and excellence for the population in Abu Dhabi. His passion advanced his career in healthcare landing him in the Public Health division of the Department of Health Following his belief in giving back to the community. He established the foresight and futures studies function in the Department of Health to study local and global healthcare futures. His most recent role Acting Digital Health Department Manager where he engages with the wider ecosystem in accelerating Abu Dhabi’s digital health agenda. Mark Cutis was appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer of the ADGM Authority effective June the 1st 2021. In this newly created position, Mark will be responsible for key functions including Corporate Services, the Office of Strategy and Business Development and the Office of Information Security and Enterprise Risk Management. Mark brings over four decades of experience to this new role working in senior positions across multiple financial capitals, including New York, London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Moscow, and Abu Dhabi. Some of his notable projects include the design and delivery of the New York University, Four Seasons Hotel and Cleveland Clinic Hospital and Khazna Data Center in Abu Dhabi. Derek Woodgate is a consulting futurist, educator, author, speaker and curator. He is the President and Chief Futurist of The Futures Lab, Inc., a foresight consultancy, he founded in 1996, which specializes in creating future potential for major corporations and institutions (http://futures-lab.com).
In addition, Derek is an Associate Professor in the ICT Department of the Engineering and Science Faculty at the University of Adger in Norway and a Visiting Professor at the University of Houston College of Technology Foresight Program. In all cases, he teaches Grad and PhD students in Applied Foresight. Recently, he was appointed to the Executive Board of the Center for Futures Studies at the University of Dubai. Derek is also a member of the World Futures Studies Federation UNESCO Committee. Derek is a resident of USA and UAE and has extensive experience of UAE government operations. Derek has BA in Eastern European Studies and a MA in Political Economics and studied for his PhD in the ICT Department at the Faculty of Engineering and Science University of Adger.
Derek has worked on numerous integrated city development projects at the government, regional and local level, as well as with the world’s leading architects, construction, and materials manufactures.
