Deputy Director - General - International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
Gauri Singh is the Deputy Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency. Ms. Singh brings more than 30 years of experience in policy, advocacy and project implementation within the field of renewable energy and sustainable development from India and the international system.
Prior to joining IRENA, Ms. Singh worked within India’s federal government and at the apex level within provincial government. Federally, she was responsible for leading the development of the National Solar Mission of India policy in 2010, an early policy framework designed to drive solar power development across the country.
At the Madhya Pradesh provincial Government, Ms. Singh steered rural development providing strategic planning and implementation guidance across the state for large initiatives. Her work involved poverty reduction and sustainable development within rural communities. She was also responsible for spearheading initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods for nearly two million poor women across the state.
In Madhya Pradesh, Ms. Singh led livelihood projects based on decentralised renewable energy solutions to support rural artisans and ran an ambitious intervention to restore the flow of 40 rivers across the state, based on the use of remote sensing maps. She also played a key role in drafting the framework for the state Right to Water Act.
Prior to that, Ms. Singh was Director, Country support and Partnerships at IRENA where she was responsible for regional and country level initiatives and for spearheading partnerships with regional energy and economic organisations.

Dr. Gernot Grimm is the Head of Staff Group for Technology Transfer at the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) with responsibility for supporting the international transfer of Austrian technologies on a ministerial level.
Dr. Grimm started his professional career in the 1980s in the Office of the Chancellor and in the Ministry for Commerce, Trade and Industry. Prior to joining BMK, Dr. Grimm worked at the Foreign Trade Department of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Labour and furthermore as CEO of the Federal Institute for International Transfer of Education and Training (BIB).
Dr. Gernot Grimm received a doctorate in law from the Karl Franzens-University in Graz, Austria, in 1980.
His professional interests focus on supporting the provision of Austrian technologies abroad for those who are in need of these technologies as well as thereby contributing to strengthen the Austrian economy by creating jobs and value added through international technology transfer. Current projects include technology cooperations for example in the field of energy technologies with Nepal, Indonesia or Serbia, in the field of health technologies with Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago as well as Macedonia or in the field of railways with China or Egypt. In addition, he serves as executive director for Neusiedlerseebahn, a local railway enterprise, and is a member of the supervisory board of FH Burgenland. 2019 Dr. Grimm was honored with the order of merit for services rendered to the Republic of Austria.

Samer M Madanat

Samer M Madanat is the Dean of Engineering at NYUAD. He is also the Xenel Distinguished Professor of Engineering Emeritus and former Chair of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (from 2012 to 2015) at the University of California at Berkeley. From 2005 to 2014, he served as the Director of the Institute of Transportation Studies. He received a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Jordan in 1986, and a M.S and Ph.D. in Transportation Systems from MIT in 1988 and 1991 respectively.
From 2001 to 2011, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the ASCE Journal of Infrastructure Systems. He is Editor of the Journal of Transport Policy and the Associate Editor of the European Journal of Transportation and Logistics. He is also a member of the Editorial Boards of four other archival technical journals.
Madanat has served as chair of external review committees for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT, the ENAC School of EPFL in Switzerland, the Department of Civil Engineering at National University in Singapore, and the School of Transportation Engineering at Tongji University in China. He has served on advisory boards for the National Academy of Engineering, the World Bank, the American University of Beirut, and as proposal review panels for NSF, USDOT, the Swiss NSF and other international foundations. Muhammad Shafique (M’11 - SM’16) received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, in 2011. Afterwards, he established and led a highly recognized research group at KIT for several years as well as conducted impactful R&D activities across the globe. In Oct.2016, he joined the Institute of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Informatics, Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien), Vienna, Austria as a Full Professor of Computer Architecture and Robust, Energy-Efficient Technologies. Since Sep.2020, he is with the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi (NYU-AD), United Arab Emirates, and is a Global Network faculty at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering (NYU-NY), USA. He is also an investigator in the Center of Cyber Security (CCS) and Center for Interacting Urban Networks (CITIES) at NYUAD.
His research interests are in brain-inspired computing, AI & machine learning hardware and system-level design, energy-efficient systems, robust computing, hardware security, emerging technologies, ML for EDA, FPGAs, MPSoCs, and embedded systems. His research has a special focus on cross-layer analysis, modeling, design, and optimization of computing and memory systems. The researched technologies and tools are deployed in application use cases from Internet-of-Things (IoT), Smart Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), and ICT for Development (ICT4D) domains.
Dr. Shafique has given several Keynotes, Invited Talks, and Tutorials, as well as organized many special sessions at premier venues. He has served as the PC Chair, General Chair, Track Chair, and PC member for several prestigious IEEE and ACM conferences. Dr. Shafique holds one U.S. patent and has (co-)authored 6 Books, 10+ Book Chapters, 300+ papers in premier journals and conferences, and 50+ archive articles. Khaled Almarzooqi joined Bayanat as Director Defence AI in August 2021, following eight years with Abu Dhabi’s Monitoring and Control Center (ADMCC), and five years with the UAE Armed Forces. As Director Defence AI, Khaled is charged with accelerating the adoption of disruptive and emerging advance technologies to directly benefit the defence sector. Khaled has enjoyed a distinguished career in both military and government domains, and in his new role at Bayanat he is tasked with introducing visions for AI innovations by delivering creative and market-leading applications. Prior to joining Bayanat, Khaled worked his way up through ADMCC, from his position as Communication Unit Head in 2013 to Execution and Planning Engineering Director in 2020. Prior to joining G42, he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Manager of YahSat Space Lab at Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Before coming to the UAE, Dr. Marpu worked as a researcher at the University of Iceland and at the University of Pavia, Italy, where he was a Marie Curie Fellow working on developing advanced methods for earth observation data analysis. He holds a PhD in Remote Sensing from TU Freiberg, Germany, and MSc in Wireless Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark. He was involved in designing and building small satellites as a project manager of four satellite programs MYSat-1, DhabiSat, MeznSat and Light-1 while participating as an advisor and reviewer for several other satellite programs. He has also actively contributed to the development of novel approaches for processing remote sensing data for a wide range of applications. Dr. Marpu has been a Council member of the International Society of Digital Earth since 2020 and has been part of several international committees related to Earth Observation technologies. Mr. Mohammed Karmestji has been the Acting Executive Director of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Sector at the Integrated Transportation Center since March 2020, where he oversees the digital transformation agenda for transportation and the application of the smart transportation system to improve traffic and transportation services, provide traffic safety and reduce traffic congestion in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Mr. Mohammed has a long experience in the field of information technology management and digital transformation in the Abu Dhabi government for more than 16 years, where he started his career in supporting digital transformation in the energy sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and from there he joined as a project manager in the General Secretariat of the Executive Council, where he contributed to the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Government Program in 2006, and the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Center for Electronic Systems and Information in 2009, where he was included in several leadership positions, the last of which was Director of the Systems Design and Development Department. Where he oversaw several vital programs and projects at the government level, including: developing the e-government strategy, establishing the Abu Dhabi Information Security Program, developing information technology standards and designs for the Abu Dhabi government, developing government data policy and standards, and supervising the operations of the Abu Dhabi electronic network.
